Isyana Sarasvati – Explore (Full Album)
To a trained listener, the arrival of Isyana Sarasvati shouldn’t be described as a surprise. In a pop scene stuffed with young, and seemingly gifted soloist like Raisa and Tulus, 22 yr old Sarasvati have been cut on the same cloth. Attractive and packagable, could be the two word that probably entered Sony Music Indonesia’s head honcho whenever they first spot Sarasvati. And yet, looking a bit deeper there’s clearly something a little more about this one.
Isyana Sarasvati is undoubtedly an oddity. She’s really the only pop musician in Indonesia, or maybe even in your neighborhood, with degree in music and scholarship to examine in The Royal College of Music in London. Local media called her a breath of outside; a pop artist with High a higher level skill, taste and experience. In fact, considering her Wikipedia page, one could imagine that they’re considering an opera singer instead of a singer which has a very popular hit single.
This contrast clearly shows in their debut album, and her seek to bridge the dichotomy between her past and doubtless her future, makes Explore (2015; Sony Music Indonesia) an intriguing album to analyze.
